EDIT: Ah nvm they addressed it at the very end. Pretty neat! Thanks guys, now just to find some friends to go with 😔 Okay so... do race tracks supply you with a dedicated spot to put all these things? Because surely you're not racing around with all this extra weight in the vehicle... right? 😅

I track often and inspect cars in the US. Brake fluid flushed within 60 days of an event is the biggest. We do pH testing on it at the track. Running track tires on your first day is a less than ideal situation actually. Good tires hide quite a lot of driver error. Modification track should go: brakes, driver mod, tires, brakes, suspension, more brakes, more driver mod, and maybe after quite a bit of instruction then power. No one is going to out drive their car on the first day. Have an instructor in the other seat with you. At the end of the day have them drive your car with you in the passenger seat. I can gauruntee you that they'll be exponentially faster than you on the same setup.
Matt M
Matt M 3 months ago
Also, do not record your lap times for at least your first event. Without instruction, lap times will just make you nervous and push beyond your skill level. Just go drive smoothly, work on turn in and track out, practice looking ahead through the turn, and finding visual queues for braking and turn points. You should be able to perfectly describe to someone else where you are braking, turning, and accelerating based on visuals at the track. Maybe a crack in the road, aiming for a tree in the distance on track out, etc.

Guys, so much gear. I used to take lots of tools like you, but it’s better just to be a bit more casual. Nothing wrong with only doing 200-300 miles of track time. It’s fine.

i would also add getting a paint marker. idk how it is in your guy's area, but there can be thieves at an event. I would say using a paint marker to mark an unsuspecting side of your items as a way to keep track of them. Something like the bottom side of an electric impact between the gun and the battery (and on the battery as well), if u see that it is missing and someone has one that looks like yours u can say that all of your stuff is marked with a marker and that if there is a dot (or whatever shape/symbol u use to mark it) of the specific color then it is yours and you can call out a thief. I used to do this when i gigged since some band that we performed with were known for stealing cabs, heads, and other gear. Even though this example isnt car related, I'm using it since many would take tools to fix our cars like in a box or a tool bag (considering that some of my friends permanently borrow some of my tools), heck even the chairs and whatever else you take out. Preventing getting your stuff stolen can let you save on the next car mod that you want instead of dropping money on replacing tools. maybe it's me just being extra paranoid, but yea, i would suggest a paint marker to mark your stuff.

#1 track day food - bananas. When you're driving/riding you end up sweating heaps and sometimes water doesn't keep you in best form. Bananas are great sources of potassium and will help with cramps and fatigue, particularly in hotter weather.

Good advice but people, you don’t need to do a wheel alignment etc. that’s now getting too expensive for a track day. Unless you’re going competitive or have been to the same track a few times and going to improve lap times (thusly needing camber, toe and caster etc) just take the car out there. If the car drives relatively straight it’s good enough. Check all fluids, make sure nothing leaks, you have your helmet and fire proof clothing or at least long sleeve and pants and enclosed shoes. Make sure you have good tyres, not road comfort sport tyres as they’ll blister on the track from the high temps in you drive hard enough to be competitive. Post track day you’ll want to change oil and filter and potentially brake fluid too, so prepare for that. Enjoy your track day!

I'm surprised you are allowed to run a motorcycle helmet. There is a video where the difference is discussed regarding fire ratings/safety issues with running a motorcycle helmet in a closed cockpit.
